Divorce and Child Custody Lawsuits are Common.

Our approach is unique.

According to statistics published by the Federal Government and the State of California in the year 2000, marriages between couples under the age of 25 without children end in divorce about 75% of the time; and if they have children, they divorce about 90% of the time. Marriages between couples over the age of 25 without children end in divorce about 50% of the time; and if they have children, they divorce about 75% of the time. Unmarried couples end up splitting apart at even higher percentages.

Also, according to these same sources of statistics, the great majority of child custody cases are contested, meaning that divorced parents are fighting in court over time with their children. In such contested custody cases, mothers are awarded primary custody about 80% of the time, fathers about 5% of the time, and 15% of the time, parents share custody. However, even in shared custody situations, mothers are awarded significantly more time with the children than fathers, such that a true 50-50 split of equal time with the children for each parent occurs less than 2% of the time.

Given such statistics, it is no wonder that the single mother household is the primary, long-term family structure in the USA. Indeed, divorce has huge impacts on a family, for the parents, the children and the extended family members, as well.
